This was a great tour. Our tour guide made certain we all knew what we were doing before we took off and he took us to certain places to navigate more difficult terrain. At the Capital we got a great history lesson and then we went all over Austin - down 6th street, on bridges, through parks, up hills and down hills, spirals and straightaways. I highly recommend it.
Ten years ago, I did the 2.5 hour Executive Segway Tour, but this year, due to my limited time, I was only able to do the 1.5 hour Capitol of Texas Segway Tour. But, just like the tour I took 10 years ago, it was fun! Logistics: Booking the tour online was super-easy and getting checked-in for our tour was easy as well. Since the tour took place on a Saturday, we had to pay for on-street parking, but there were plenty of available spaces right in front of the Segway Nation office. The Tour: We were a group of 6 and our tour began with the obligatory safety and training session on the Segways. There were two of us who had ridden Segways before and the others got trained up quickly, so we were on the road in no time. Our tour began with a ride over to the Texas Capitol (where our guide offered to take photos with our cameras). Then it was down to Sixth Street for a stop to learn about this part of town. We continued on by the Warehouse District to the Butterfly Bridge and, again, the guide offered to take photos with the Austin skyline in the background. I came home with a good set of scenic photos of me and my companion. What I Liked: As with every Segway tour that I have taken, it was fun just riding the Segways. The tour ended up being closer to 2 hours which meant we got more Segway-riding time than I expected and that's always a good thing. What Could Be Improved - When the guide gave some commentary, it was evident that she knew a lot about Austin but there just weren't enough stops on the tour for her to talk about what we were seeing (or what we had seen). I was the only person on the tour familiar with Austin (I used to live there and still have family there) so it wasn't such a big deal for me, but the other participants didn't get to learn much about the city. Also, toward the end of the tour, the guide was leading us at a speed that was a challenge for several of the participants--and faster than I think we should have been going with so many first-timers. Since I have ridden Segways many times, I ended up slowing down to bring up the rear.
This was our family’s first Segway tour. We will definitely do it again. Alex was excellent in teaching us how to ride and make sure we were all comfortable. He also gave a great tour of some historical places as well as the entire downtown Austin area. Gave good recommendations for things to see & do and places to eat. You can tell he is very experienced and even with what felt like a large group, he was attentive and kept up with all of us.
The fun of riding a Segway is underrated. It’s a great way to see downtown without killing your feet. The guide was a true Austinite and looks out for his patrons. My wife and I enjoyed our tour immensely and look forward to doing it again with out of town guests.
